Howard Fineman: The mess Obama or McCain will inherit

Posted by soldierservant on October 6, 2008

This is like what Michael Savage was saying that this country is run by corporations rather than government. He ran a mock pledge of allegiance, the pledge of allegiance to Goldman Sachs. A lot of sci-fi stories of the future seem to be right when they portrayed this country will be run by corporations.

Europe Rescues More Banks As Bailout Spreads

Posted by soldierservant on October 1, 2008

By Eddie Evans Reuters NEW YORK
President George W. Bush eased pressure on financial markets Tuesday with assurances that a $700 billion bailout for the financial sector can be revived, but the crisis spread further through European banks.

The dollar rallied and U.S. stocks recovered 3 percent after suffering their blackest day in 20 years on Monday as the U.S. House of Representatives rejected the rescue plan. The White House, Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, congressional leaders and the two candidates hoping to succeed Bush as president, Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama, kept up a steady drumbeat of support for the plan, and around the world markets stabilized.

“There’s an overarching belief that at some point this week, whether it’s Wednesday or Thursday, we’ll get something passed by the House,” said Arthur Hogan, chief market analyst at Jefferies & Co in Boston.

But global money markets remained frozen, and London interbank offered rates shot to record levels, indicating banks were not lending to each other. The rate for overnight dollar loans rose to nearly 6.9 percent from just over 2.5 percent on Monday.

Without the bailout plan, which would allow the U.S. Treasury to buy toxic mortgage-related assets from banks, credit markets could remain frozen and lead to a recession.

“I assure our citizens and citizens around the world that this is not the end of the legislative process,” Bush said.

From Dublin to Moscow, the financial crisis was an ominous presence.

Ireland unveiled a blanket guarantee for savings held by its banks, and for the second time in a month Russia briefly shut down its stock markets.

France, Belgium and Luxembourg poured 6.4 billion euros into Franco-Belgian bank Dexia to avoid defaults on its loans, and France promised new bank measures to help savers.

Shares of British bank HBOS Plc fell on fears that Lloyds TSB Group Plc could renegotiate a deal to buy HBOS.

Dutch banking and insurance group Fortis and regional U.S. bank Wachovia succumbed on Monday.

Wall Street stocks rose as investors bet the bailout package would be approved by the U.S. Congress this week. The dollar rose against the yen and oil rebounded. European stocks recovered from earlier losses.

The White House said Bush had “constructive” talks with McCain, a Republican, and Obama, a Democrat, on Tuesday. Both presidential candidates have urged their fellow members of Congress to pass the bailout package and called for the limit on bank deposit insurance to be increased to boost confidence in banks.

Sen. Harry Reid and Sen. Mitch McConnell, the top Democrat and Republican in the U.S. Senate, promised swift action.

Congress was not in session on Tuesday because of a Jewish holiday. The Senate could take up bailout legislation as early as Wednesday. The House is to return on Thursday.

Lawmakers held discussions with each other and Bush administration officials on Tuesday to explore options, including possible changes in the measure the House defeated.

They could revise the bill or bring it up for another House vote. The next vote could occur in the Senate, where there has been more bipartisan support for the plan.

Monday’s defeat in the House was driven by a collection of Republicans and Democrats — many of whom are in tight re-election races — who received angry calls and e-mails from constituents upset at the idea of bailing out Wall Street.

The Strong Delusion Of American Democracy

Posted by soldierservant on October 1, 2008

The republicans who have opposed the bailouts did so because of the
constituent outcry. Not by any virtue of themselves. But still you know
it will only be a matter of time when they will all cave into Bush. Bush
is determined to reward these criminals and will always get his way. So
those who are deluded into thinking we still have a democracy, keep on
dreaming, because a dream is all that it is. It is not reality. Even if
it were, that raises a whole new question. If everyone is so outraged
about this bailout, then what about the other issues? What about Bush’s
betrayal of Israel? Why is there no outcry from the american people over
this? What about abortion that has been funded by the republican’s TITLE
X funding to PLANNED PARENTHOOD? Where is the taxpayers’ outrage that
$300 million a year in taxes go this? Or the taxpayers’ outrage of our
taxes supporting terrorists and communists around the world? What of the
massacre in Darfur? This proves how selfish the american people are that
they are only concerned with themselves and care for nobody else. This
is a nation of goats that Jesus will cast into hell. Don’t think that
donating to charities here will save you or justify you while you
support the oppression of others around the world. The wicked Pharisees
did such deeds themselves to try to justify themselves and to be seen of
men, but their hearts were not true. The bible speaks of love as seeking
the good of others, not for one’s self. This is lost on the american
people. This proves what Jesus said in Matthew 24 about the love of most
growing cold because of the increase of wickedness. We are fulfilling
biblical prophecy, in a bad way. Joel 3:2 says that God will judge the
nations that divide Israel. Get ready because judgment is coming. You
wicked people have refused to support Israel. Such are the synagogue of
Satan! Church for the most part will not save you but likely condemn
you. Jesus will spit the lukewarm out of his mouth. You know you are
lukewarm if you are comfortable with all the wickedness that is going
on. Most of the church is. Those who defend and justify corruption prove
themselves evil and will reap what they sow. Those whose hearts are not
true think that mere deeds will save them. The bible says that your
deeds are as filthy rags. If you are not true to Christ then all the
good deeds in the world do not matter. Jesus made this so abundantly
clear in Matthew 7:21-23. Those who continue on in sin without
conscience, without repentance, do not know Jesus. They belong to Satan!
Where do churchgoers get off on thinking they are so holy? Jesus didn’t
spend much of his time in church but was out among the sinners because
of his compassion for the lost. The vile religious hypocrite Pharsisees
condemned Jesus for that. Most of the church hates the lost just as the
Pharisees did and are useless to Christ. They have no light to shine
among the darkness. They bring the way of truth into disrepute. Those
who misrepresent Christ will have the harshest of punishments. Most of
the church has no resemblance to Christ at all. They are satanic
imposters. Their fruits speak for themselves. Those who preach war
expose their own hate. One thing I agree in Hagee’s book, In Defense Of
Israel, is that the modern church would not accept Jesus, even by his
superficial appearance, and that Jesus would overturn the tables in many
churches. He was right about that. Charisma magazine is pushing the two
party lie of Obama & McCain. The church is deep into the corruption of
this world. Like 1Peter 4:17 that says that judgment begins in the house
of God. If God’s own word says that He will judge His own house, then
where do hypocrites get off thinking they can escape just by attending
church? It is all the more they will be held responsible.

Bush Trip To Beijing Olympics Shameful by Chuck Baldwin

According to numerous press reports, President George W. Bush plans to
attend the opening ceremonies of the Summer Olympics in Beijing, China later
this month. Bush said that it “would be an affront to the Chinese people” if
he stayed away. Other world leaders, including Chancellor Angela Merkel of
Germany and Prime Minister Gordon Brown of Britain, are choosing to not
attend the opening ceremonies in the communist country.

It is hard for this writer to laud President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, but
in this case, even the socialist Roosevelt showed more integrity than our
so-called “conservative” President, George W. Bush. When the 1936 Olympics
were held in Berlin, Germany, President Roosevelt refused to attend those
ceremonies for fear that his presence would give honor and prestige to the
notorious Adolf Hitler. And so it would have. And, by the same token, when
President Bush attends the opening ceremonies in China, he is giving honor
and prestige to the bloody butchers of Beijing who have persecuted,
tortured, and murdered multiplied thousands of the Chinese people since the
communist regime took power in 1949.

President Bush said it would be an affront to the Chinese people if he did
not attend the Olympics. Wrong. It would be an affront to the Red Chinese
tyrants. And they deserve to be affronted! Instead, by attending the Olympic
ceremonies, Bush is choosing to affront the hundreds of thousands of Chinese
victims who have suffered brutality and barbarism at the hands of the very
people Bush will be wining and dining with. Actually, by participating in
the Beijing Olympics, President Bush is an affront to freedom-loving people
everywhere.

For example, the Chinese government has already created profiles of
thousands of foreign journalists coming to cover the Olympic games.
Communist officials will also be spying on virtually every visitor from the
moment they arrive in China. Red Army surrogates will monitor virtually all
Internet activity. One Chinese security official vowed “to punish anyone who
takes part in a political, religious or ethnic demonstration or protest ‘in
any form’ at an Olympic site during the 2008 Beijing Games.” (Source: The
Washington Post)

In fact, Red China has been increasing its crackdowns on “dissenters”
throughout 2007 and during the first half of this year in preparation for
the Olympics. “There was a 20 percent increase over 2006 in convictions of
citizens under China’s overly broad state security law that is often used to
silence government critics.” (Source: The Washington Times) In other words,
the approaching Olympic Games have served only to intensify the Beijing
government’s oppression of the Chinese people.

The many thousands of freedom-loving people in persecuted lands across the
globe (including China) feel betrayed and abandoned by President Bush–and
rightly so. As President of the United States, Mr. Bush had an opportunity
to send the loudest and clearest of messages to the people of the world that
America was on the side of freedom and liberty, and that it respects and
appreciates the thousands of persecuted people struggling for freedom under
totalitarian governments. Instead, by choosing to sit beside the communist
officials at the Olympic ceremonies, Mr. Bush has given credence and, at
least, tacit support to a bunch of murderous thugs who are the modern-day
symbols of oppression and tyranny.

Shame on you, Mr. Bush! (c) Chuck Baldwin chuck@chuckbaldwinlive.com

More Reasons To Beware Of Mike Huckabee

Many Christian conservatives see Mike Huckabee as the best candidate
to deliver the GOP from an impending pro-abortion presidential
nomination of either Rudy Giuliani or Mitt Romney. Huckabee is doing
especially well in Iowa, particularly among evangelicals. Is Mike
Huckabee worthy of this support, however? The facts say no.

I have already attempted to warn my evangelical brethren as to the
dangers of supporting Mike Huckabee. See
http://www.chuckbaldwinlive.com/c2007/cbarchive_20071102.html
However, that first column was just the tip of the proverbial iceberg.
Here are more reasons to beware of Mike Huckabee.

Robert Novak recently wrote a column about Mike Huckabee entitled,
“The False Conservative.” In the column he said, “Huckabee is
campaigning as a conservative, but serious Republicans know that he is
a high-tax, protectionist, big-government advocate of a strong hand in
the Oval Office directing the lives of Americans.”

Novak also said, “There is no doubt about Huckabee’s record during a
decade in Little Rock as governor. . . He increased the Arkansas tax
burden by 47 percent, boosting the levies on gasoline and cigarettes.”

Novak continued saying, “Quin Hillyer, a former Arkansas journalist
writing in the conservative American Spectator, called Huckabee ‘a guy
with a thin skin, a nasty vindictive streak.’ Huckabee’s retort was to
attack Hillyer’s journalistic procedures, fitting a mean-spirited
image when he responds to conservative criticism.”

Calling Huckabee a proponent of big-government is an understatement.
“If you listen closely, all the things he supports increase the size,
power and cost of government. From subsidies for energy research to
increasing money for health care and government housing, the size,
power, and cost of government will not shrink under a President Mike
Huckabee; they will increase . . . Mr. Huckabee swore an oath to
support and defend the Constitution when he became governor, yet many
of his proposals are clearly unconstitutional.” (Source: David Ulrich,
Letter of the Week, World Net Daily, 10/26/07)

In addition, Dr. Jerome Corsi reports that “Financial inducements
arranged by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee to establish a Mexican
consular office in Little Rock may have violated state law, according
to an Arkansas attorney.”

Writing for World Net Daily, Dr. Corsi exposed the fact that Mike
Huckabee “worked with some of the state’s most prominent and
politically powerful businesses to establish the [Mexican] consulate
as a magnet for drawing illegal immigrants to the state to accept
low-paying jobs.”

Corsi goes on to report that “Arkansas attorney Chip Sexton provided
WND a written legal brief arguing the state government’s sublease to
Mexico of office space for the consulate was illegal under Arkansas
law. Sexton contended the deal raised questions about the
appropriateness of private citizens and corporations in Arkansas
providing financial incentives for the government of Mexico to locate
a consulate office in Little Rock.”

Corsi also writes that “Robert Trevino, commissioner of Arkansas
Rehabilitation Services, told WND he and Huckabee helped arrange state
and private financial support to induce Mexico to establish the
consulate as a business development ‘quid pro quo.’

“Trevino signed on July 7, 2006, a ‘Facilities Use Agreement’ with
Mexican consular officials to rent state government office space for
$1 a year on the second floor of the Arkansas Rehabilitation Services
building at 26 Corporate Hills in Little Rock.”

According to Sexton, not only did subleasing state government offices
to Mexico violate Arkansas state law under Ark. Code Ann.
22-2-114(C)(i) which provides: “After July 1, 1975, no state agency
shall enter into or renew or otherwise negotiate a lease between
itself as lessor or lessee and a nongovernmental or other government
lessor or lessee,” but it was even more offensive in that “there was
nothing in the lease or other agreements that would have prevented the
Mexican consulate from providing legal assistance to illegal aliens.”

In addition, Corsi also exposed the fact that Mike Huckabee worked
with Mexican President Vicente Fox to help provide cheap Mexican labor
for Tyson foods and other large Arkansas corporations. According to
Corsi, “Trevino confirmed he was state director of the League of
United Latin American Citizens, also known as LULAC, an activist group
strongly advocating for the rights of Hispanic immigrants in the U.S.,
when on Oct. 3, 2003, he accompanied Huckabee in a state airplane to
visit [President Vicente] Fox in Mexico.”

There is more.

The American Spectator reported that “Fourteen times, the ethics
commission–a respected body, not a partisan witch-hunt
group–investigated claims against Huckabee. Five of those times, it
officially reprimanded him. And as only MSNBC among the big national
media has reported at an real length, there were lots of other
mini-scandals and embarrassments along the way.”

Plus, writing for The Washington Times, Greg Pierce quoted Hillyer as
saying, “[Huckabee] used public money for family restaurant meals,
boat expenses, and other personal uses. He tried to claim as his own
some $70,000 of furniture donated to the governor’s mansion. He
repeatedly, and obstinately, against the pleadings even from
conservative columnists and editorials, refused to divulge the names
of donors to a ‘charitable’ organization he set up while lieutenant
governor–an outfit whose main charitable purpose seemed to be to pay
Huckabee to make speeches. Then, as a kicker, he misreported the
income itself from the suspicious ‘charity.'”

Mike Huckabee’s beliefs and actions even border on the bizarre.
According to David Keene, Chairman of the American Conservative Union,
“GOP presidential wannabe Mike Huckabee suggested that as president he
would, for the good of the people, support a federal anti-smoking law.
You see, as governor, Huckabee supported such laws because, well, he
doesn’t like smoking and doesn’t think folks should indulge in so
heath-threatening an activity. If he could move on up to the
presidency, he would continue his abolitionist crusade at the national
level without giving much, if any, thought to the question of whether
the Constitution or anything else would legitimize a federal ban on
smoking.”

I have yet one more word of warning for those evangelicals supporting
Huckabee because he is pro-life: Mike Huckabee will most definitely
support Rudy Giuliani should Giuliani obtain the Republican
nomination. Count on it.

I ask you, how could a committed “pro-life” conservative support a
pro-abortion, pro-gay rights, pro-gun control liberal such as Rudy
Giuliani? He couldn’t.

At the end of the day, however, there is absolutely no question that
Huckabee will support Giuliani (or any other pro-abortion Republican),
because, when all is said and done, Huckabee and his fellow
big-government Republicans have no real commitment to the life issue
or to any other conservative principle.

Let’s say it plainly: Mike Huckabee is just another big-government,
establishment politician who will do nothing to stem the tide of
socialism or fascism (pick your poison) emanating from Washington,
D.C., these days.

Dear Christian friend, don’t be duped by Mike Huckabee.
